This will make the self-editing process much more efficient, since you won’t lose precious time and mind space going back and forth boomeranging between ideas and approaches. Knowing with confidence which step to focus on and when to focus on it (while knowing what comes next) makes all the difference.

Module 3: Embrace Your Inner Editor

Writing and editing use different parts of your brain—and when you try to combine them, you end up drained, frustrated, and stuck.

In this module, you’ll learn how to separate the two processes so each one can actually work the way it’s meant to.

We’ll walk through:

• the difference between writing, editing, and rewriting
• and how to ease your mind out of creative mode and into clear, focused revision

Module 4: Context Deep-Dive

Now we shift from preparation into the core of your revisions.

In this module, you’ll focus on the two building blocks of your story: characters and setting—and how they work together to shape everything that happens on the page.

When you understand your characters deeply and how your setting supports them, your edits stop feeling random—and start making sense.

Module 5: The Big Picture

This is where you dive into your manuscript and start shaping the big picture.

You’ll learn how to reverse outline your novel, identify plot holes, and strengthen your story from beginning to end.

We’ll also cover timing and pacing—so your story flows the way it’s meant to.

Module 6: The First Beta Reader Round

Learn all the steps that will get you the most valuable feedback during a beta reader round. You'll learn how and where to find beta readers that are a good fit for you and your book and how to make sure you’ll get the feedback you’re looking for. Then, you'll learn how to navigate the feedback you’ve received and implement changes for the good of your story.

Module 7: Tidying Up Your Manuscript

With your story structure in place, it’s time to refine the writing itself.

You’ll use ProWritingAid to tackle grammar, repetition, and readability, so your manuscript becomes clearer, smoother, and more polished.

Module 8: Conveying What You Want to Convey

You’ll refine your character voice and setting atmosphere by making intentional word choices—so your story feels exactly the way you want it to.

We’ll focus on:

• strengthening character voice through POV, dialogue, and behavior
• enhancing descriptions to create a vivid, immersive experience

Module 9: Polishing Your Manuscript

This is where you take your writing to the next level.

You’ll refine your sentences by eliminating clichés, reducing passive voice and adverbs, and choosing stronger, more intentional wording.

You’ll also step back for a full read-through—so your manuscript flows smoothly from beginning to end.

Module 10: Advocate for Yourself, Others & Your Novel

How do you know when the novel is done and ready for the world? 

Now that you’ve done all you can to polish, enhance and strengthen your writing, it’s time for the second major break and the second beta reader round. Optimize your team of beta readers to make sure you get the feedback you’re looking for in this round.

Finally, when you’ve finished implementing everything from this module… you’re done! 🎉
